Sikh Family Center’s Camp Safety Guide

At Camp, we seek to model the best of Sikh culture. Safety is a key part of walking the Khalsa talk. Yet, most camps do not have written safety protocols, guidelines, or trainings.

Combine the general busyness, sleep-deprivation, close connections, and high emotions of camp with tricky issues and questions (e.g. bullying, mental health, violence in the home, etc.) that may suddenly arise. The result is often hasty, incomplete or insufficient responses. Sometimes this causes lasting harm or trauma to some campers, and a lack of sangat and trust for others.

The demands on camps are challenging, as evident in Sikh Family Center’s surveys conducted in 2025 with Organizers, Parents and Camp Counselors across the country.

The time to address them is now.
