Preet Kaur Sabharwal, PSYD

Dr. Preet Kaur Sabharwal received her PsyD at the American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University in Alameda. She has been providing clinical services at The Hume Center for the past 8 years in their South Asian Community Health Promotion Services program. As a first-generation Punjabi growing up in Northern California, Dr. Sabharwal has used her roots to initiate conversations around emotional wellness within the Punjabi community in the Bay Area. She has been working with Punjabi youth, adults, and families to help facilitate healthier communication in order to foster stronger relationships. Preet’s interests in psychology are also focused on breaking stigmas of mental health and increasing utilization of mental health services in the Punjabi community through outreach, psycho-education, and language and culturally-based services. Her own experiences of not feeling connected to other South Asian providers in the area and feeling the lack of supervision and support for those working with the population fostered the creation of the South Asian Mental Health Consortium, an organization that puts on a yearly South Asian Mental Health Conference. Preet has presented on South Asian Mental Health at conferences all across the United States and is considered to be one of the front-runners of South Asian Mental Health Advocacy. In October 2019 Preet was recognized by the Asian American Psychological Association for her outstanding contributions to Asian American Psychology and received the AAPA Early Career Award for Distinguished Contributions to Service. She is also a proud mother of a vibrant and sassy 4-year-old who keeps her busy in her free time.
