A Look Back and A Push Forward
Thanks for all your support to the Sikh Family Center, always! We close this year with optimism: knowing we are going to grow bigger & better in 2017. Please see our attached Newsletter!
It has become clear to us that we must take the next steps to strengthen our community boldly: Hire Staff! We have been entirely volunteer-run since 2009. We aim for our first staff Crisis Counselor-Community Advocate to start in Feb 2017, or as soon as we to raise another $15,000. Donate Here! Among other things, including providing critical outreach to Undocumented families–an entirely underserved part of our population thus far, this staff person will strengthen our SFC Helpline. Here’s what one of our Helpline Peer Counselors (trained last year) has to say:
The Sikh Family Center’s Helpline is the only one of its kind for our community in the States. It truly offers help tailored to the needs and sensitivities of our community and provides aid for issues ranging from domestic violence to health insurance. Only after I started volunteering here did it really strike me that there is NO other service like this available for folks who need it. They would otherwise be on their own and figure out the system themselves. Thankfully that’s not the case now. We’re here and WANT to help!”
