n 2009, Sikh Family Center launched with local health clinics, particularly for the uninsured, as well as under-insured, and began witnessing the needs of the community and the desire for better, community-specific health interventions.
Thank you to the Sikh Foundation International for joining hands with SFC to bring this Seva to our community. Thank you to Guru Nanak Khalsa School, for hosting “Health and Wellness For All” conference. A beautiful shabad by Bhai Amanpreet Singh was followed by short and succinct presentations. We had a very successful event with the a room full of very engaged audience of all ages, who had ample questions for our panel of experts on: dental wellness, adolescent behaviors, Punjabi diet and risk of heart disease, depression in the elderly, advance care planning, end of life care and hospice. Do you worry about the mental health of your aging parents? What effect does a stressful lifestyle and acrimonious relationships have on our health? All your answer lies in here where experts from different areas would be sharing their insights on how to live a healthy and happy life.
A panel of distinguished doctors and health experts will answer your queries related to health and bring you closer to the greatest wealth of mankind. Dr. Amrit K. Singh DDS, expertise as a dentist will immensely benefit us with her insights on how to keep good dental health throughout our life. Naina Sodhi LMFT, a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist will show us how to navigate the sensitive and emotional phase of adolescence and the teenage years. Dr. Jasbir Singh Kang M.D, a distinguished physician and community leader, will share his concerns on why our Punjabi diet and lack of exercise is causing our community to fall prey to early mortality and how we can rectify this. Dr Anu Kaur Sandhu M.D a certified psychiatrist from the Royal College of Canada will share her experiences on the causes and solutions of depression in the elderly. Dr Gurpreet Kaur Padam M.D will share her experiences working with the elderly on how to best approach the difficult and delicate maters during the ‘end of life’ care and planning for a graceful exit.
